ITINERARY

Day by Day

Day

01

Arrival - Colombo

A private airport transfer to your Colombo hotel. An evening cultural briefing and welcome dinner showcasing Sri Lankan flavours – the right way to open a journey designed around depth and engagement with the island rather than coverage of its landmarks.

Day

02

Colombo to Anuradhapura

The drive north takes around three and a half hours. Anuradhapura – Sri Lanka’s first royal capital, founded in the 4th century BC – reveals itself gradually: the scale of the ancient dagobas, the sacred Bodhi Tree, the Abhayagiri Monastery complex spread across the dry-zone landscape. A sunset stroll through local villages.

Day

03

Anuradhapura - Full Cycling Day

A full day exploring the ancient city by bicycle with a specialist guide – the ruins, the irrigation canals, the sacred temples and the 3,000-year-old story they tell together. Lunch with a local family in a village home. Evening photography of the sacred sites in the last light.

Day

04

Anuradhapura to Sigiriya via Dambulla

A comfortable drive to Sigiriya with a stop at Dambulla Cave Temple – the intricate murals and reclining Buddha statues that have been added to and repainted for over two thousand years. An afternoon village tour and cooking demonstration near Sigiriya.

Day

05

Sigiriya - Rock Fortress & Minneriya Safari

A sunrise climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress – the ancient water gardens, the frescoes, the Mirror Wall and the summit panorama. An afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park – elephants, deer and endemic birds at the reservoir. Evening relaxation at the lodge.

Day

06

Sigiriya to Kandy via Matale

The drive south through Matale includes a hands-on stop at a spice garden. An afternoon guided visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and an evening cultural dance performance in Kandy.

Day

07

Kandy to Knuckles - Forest Retreat

The drive east into the Knuckles Mountain Range takes around an hour and a half. An afternoon guided nature walk through untouched cloud forest, past waterfalls and through village paths. Dinner at an eco-lodge under mountain stars.

Day

08

Knuckles - Full Trek Day

A full-day guided trek through the Knuckles cloud forest – endemic flora and fauna, highland birdlife, a packed picnic by a waterfall and an optional swim in a natural pool. The Knuckles are one of Sri Lanka’s most genuinely undervisited landscapes and consistently one of the most rewarding days of this itinerary.

Day

09

Knuckles to Nuwara Eliya - Tea Country

The drive south into Nuwara Eliya takes around two and a half hours. A tea plantation visit with guided walk and tasting. The colonial hill station, Gregory Lake and an evening of estate-view relaxation.

Horton Plains - World's End at Sunrise

An early departure – around 6am – for Horton Plains National Park at 2,100 metres. The 9-kilometre circuit walk crosses montane cloud forest and open moorland to World’s End: a sheer escarpment where the ground drops 900 metres to the lowland plains below. Clear mornings only, which is why going early matters. Baker’s Falls on the return. Afternoon tea estate spa relaxation in Nuwara Eliya.

Day

11

Scenic Train - Nanu Oya to Ella

The highland rail journey from Nanu Oya to Ella – one of the world’s most celebrated train routes. Arrive in Ella in the late afternoon, explore the village and the tea terraces. An evening photography session at the Nine Arch Bridge.

Day

14

Udawalawe to South Coast - Beach Arrival

The drive to the south coast takes around an hour and a half. An afternoon of beach relaxation. Optional spa session or water sports. Sunset photography along a stretch of coast that is quieter and wider than the more commercial beaches further west.

Day

15

South Coast - Full Leisure Day

A full day given entirely to the coast. An optional coastal boat tour in the morning. A candlelit dinner on the beach in the evening – the right way to close a journey of this length.
